IN a dramatic government u-turn inmates in Scottish prisons are to be given the vote but lose their rights to dessert and assorted confectionery.
Barlinnie braced for the withdrawal of Angel Delight The decision was made after officials re-examined the government's legal case and realised they were facing defeat. A spokesman said: "We felt it was the right time to negotiate. Majority opinion reckons that because they've committed a crime and are a menace to society they should lose the right to vote. But why does it have to be the vote? "If they've been bad then why shouldn't they lose the right to pudding, or watching television or staying up late? With all due respect for public opinion we decided it was time to make a deal." Prisoners' spokesman, Chris Cooper, said: "We accept that we are in here to be punished but we felt that taking away our vote was bit harsh.
"We did a poll and most lags were happy to swap pudding for the ballot. "It's great day for criminal democracy and I for one will be voting Conservative. It's the only language I understand. " Cooper added: "That said, I'm glad I'm not the one who has to break it to the Barlinnie Angel Delight Fan Club. Those are some seriously hard bastards."
