Your astrological week ahead for August 29th, with Psychic Bob

Aries, March 21st–April 19th

They say Elvis died on the toilet. But in another way, the toilet was where he truly lived.

Taurus, April 20th–May 20th

Happy birthday to my best friend’s beautiful fiancée who smells great and I like to hug for just a split second too long!

Gemini, May 21st–June 21st

They should save one celebrity death until the end of the year, as a surprise Christmas tearjerker.

Cancer, June 22nd–July 22nd

The quote ‘The bowler’s Holding, the batman’s Willey’ is an urban legend. Michael Holding was in fact sucking Peter Willey off.

Leo, July 23rd–August 22nd

Why can’t Superman and Spider-Man meet? Don’t give me that ‘they’re in separate comicbook universes’ guff. I mean in real life.

Virgo, August 23rd–September 22nd

Many a Michael makes a Muchael.

Libra, September 23rd–October 22nd

Breed a Cockerpoo and Labradoodle for a Cock-a-Doodle Poo. Thank me later.

Scorpio, October 23rd–November 22nd

I’m like Marmite: I come in a jar.

Sagittarius, November 22nd–December 21st

Spice up your middle-class dinner party by turning a charcuterie board into a Ouija board by concealing letters and numbers beneath the prosciutto and Iberian ham.

Capricorn, December 22nd–January 19th

Magnum Pi, yes. But to how many places?

Aquarius, January 20th–February 18th

The apostles who believed Jesus were gullible as f**k. Doubting Thomas at least did due diligence.

Pisces, February 19th–March 20th

“Wow, deja vu! No, wait, I’m the Dalai Lama.”

'Did you see me playing The Smiths in Ukraine? I bet girls did'

From the ongoing correspondence between David Gedge, lead singer of The Wedding Present, and the prime minister

Dear Gedgey,

Hope you’re okay me writing, I don’t want to disturb you if you’re recording a new Weddoes album. That has to come first.

Just wanted to say I’m running the country now – not that it compares to what you do. It is pretty cool. But did you see me in Ukraine playing The Smiths on an acoustic?

They were expecting a dull politician when I hit them with Rusholme Ruffians. Now that’s Manchesterism. You could tell they were into it.

Sucks I has to wear a suit later. Zelensky was in this long-sleeved black top with, like, this understated muted design. Like Clint Boon in the DJ booth at South levels of cool.

Anyway, back home now and we might have to raise taxes. My advisors say the public won’t be happy, but happiness is overrated. What’s wrong with a general aloof miserablism? In my experience girls like it.

But I’m worried. I keep thinking it’s selling out, like when REM signed to a major label which kind of ruined them for me.

Wouldn’t we be better as a lo-fi country? Like the cash might technically improve the NHS, but will we lose the purity of the Peel Session NHS we have now?

I’m only doing this until my band takes off anyway, but I’d appreciate a few pointers from a legend of the scene. You can’t trust anyone from outside Greater Manchester. They’re trendies or, worse, Goths from Leeds.

Okay, get back to me whenever you can. I’ll see you on the Seamonsters 35th anniversary tour in October. I’ll be down the front at Wrexham. In my glasses.

Yours, Andy
